The road to medicine is fiercely competitive. We help you prepare for it — pairing aspiring medics with UK medical undergraduates who've been through it themselves.
Every 1-2-1 Medics tutor is a current UK medical student who has been through the application process themselves and secured their place at medical school.

KING'S"Most schools don't adequately prepare aspiring medics for what lies ahead. So we decided to take matters into our own hands."
Getting into medical school is one of the most competitive processes in education. The UCAT, the personal statement, the MMI — each is a high-stakes hurdle that schools simply don't prepare students for.
1-2-1 Medics was built to change that. We work with current UK medical undergraduates — tutors who have been through the application process themselves, secured their own places at medical school, and understand what admissions panels are looking for. Not because they read about it — because they lived it.
This isn't generic tutoring — it's preparation from people who've sat in the same seat.
Structured coaching across all five subtests — verbal reasoning, decision making, quantitative reasoning, abstract reasoning, and situational judgement. Timed practice, performance tracking, and score-maximising strategies from tutors who've sat the UCAT themselves.
Exam prepMultiple drafts, detailed feedback, and a compelling authentic narrative that demonstrates genuine clinical insight, intellectual curiosity, and the maturity that medical schools are looking for — from tutors who've written successful Oxbridge applications.
Writing supportFull mock MMI circuits, scenario training, and medical ethics coaching led by tutors who succeeded at the UK's toughest medical school interviews. We build confidence, sharpen reasoning, and teach you to perform under real pressure.
InterviewExpert guidance on building a strategically balanced UCAS list — matching your UCAT score, academic profile, and learning style to the right medical schools, with a clear understanding of each university's selection process.
StrategyDon't take our word for it.

Most students revise for the UCAT the wrong way. Here's the strategy that separates band 1 scorers from everyone else.
Your personal statement has one job. Most fail at it. Here's exactly what admissions tutors want to see.
The Multiple Mini Interview terrifies most applicants. Here's a complete breakdown of how to prepare properly.
Taking a year out divides opinion. Here's the honest answer — and how to make a gap year work in your favour.
With 33 UK medical schools and only four UCAS choices, picking the right universities is one of the most consequential decisions of your application.
Not all work experience is equal. Here's what admissions tutors genuinely value — and how to reflect on it compellingly.
Effective UCAT preparation is about technique and timing, not just content. Work through each of the five subtests to find your weaker areas, then drill them with timed questions until speed becomes second nature. Learn the on-screen tools and keyboard shortcuts, sit full mocks under real exam conditions, and review every question you get wrong to understand the reasoning behind it. Consistent, focused practice over several weeks beats last-minute cramming.
Medical schools want to see genuine clinical insight through thoughtful reflection on work experience (not just description), intellectual curiosity that extends beyond the A-level curriculum, and non-academic qualities — empathy, resilience, communication — demonstrated through specific examples rather than just listed. The strongest statements are precise, personal, and leave no room for generic filler.
MMI preparation requires understanding what each station type is testing, building a structured thinking framework for scenarios, developing a solid grounding in medical ethics (the four principles and how to apply them), and completing multiple full mock MMI circuits under timed conditions. Reading about MMIs helps — but only practising under real conditions changes outcomes.
The majority of UK medical schools use the UCAT as part of their selection process, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Dundee, Edinburgh, Exeter, Glasgow, Hull York, Keele, King's College London, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Queen Mary, Queen's Belfast, Sheffield, Southampton, and St Andrews, among others. Oxford, Cambridge, and Imperial use their own selection tests. Always check individual university requirements for the current cycle as these can change.
A gap year is neither inherently helpful nor harmful — what matters is what you do with it and how you present it. A year with substantive clinical experience, meaningful personal development, and a clear narrative can genuinely strengthen an application. A year that cannot be accounted for purposefully raises questions. If you are planning a gap year, build it around two or three clear objectives from the start.
